What is Reiki?
Reiki is an alternative healing modality that was developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist.
It is relaxing and reduces stress, which in and of itself promotes healing. But there’s more. Practitioners use “laying on hands,” and intentions to clear the energy in the body and increase the flow of life force energy (Ki) in order to clear the mental and emotional toxins that interfere with life force energy and cause problems.
If your life force energy is high and its flow through the body is free and unrestricted, life flows smoothly for you. If it is low, or if you suffer from energy blockages, you may suffer from physical and psychological problems and unwanted life situations.
Where Does Reiki Therapy Come From?
The word Reiki comes from “Rei” meaning God’s wisdom or higher power, and “Ki” meaning life force energy. Combined, Reiki means “spiritually guided life force energy.”
Can you feel this energy when you are having a treatment?
Some people do, and some don’t.
If you’re very attuned to your body and the energy flowing through it, you will feel a warm glow or radiance. But, you may feel nothing at all and just go home feeling relaxed.
Reiki is a safe method of spiritual or energy healing. Virtually all illnesses and conditions can be cured or improved using Reiki and it’s a wonderful complement to western medical treatments because it has no side effects and promotes a happy, positive mindset which is essential to healing are emotions such as anger, jealousy, feelings of unworthiness, depression, guilt, insecurity or resentment.
The body is more than just a physical object – it is a combination of the physical body and the thinking/spiritual being. Together, that makes up “you.” Reiki works holistically to allow the real you – without the physical and emotional toxins – shine through.
How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki stimulates energy (Reiki) to move in the body.
You already have energy in the body but it may be blocked and not flowing smoothly. During or after a treatment, you may feel the effects of energy being unblocked.
For a time, physical and psychological symptoms may worsen as the mind/body cleanses itself. This is normal and expected, so if it happens to you, just ride it out and know that the discomfort will pass and you’ll feel much better, soon. It’s important to support your body as best you can to help you move past the cleansing process.
Reiki does not direct the life force energy or manipulate it in any way – it is about clearing out the toxins that prevent free energy flow.
Can anyone practice Reiki? Yes!
Interestingly, the ability to use Reiki is not “taught” but rather is transmitted from teacher to student in a class. The student undergoes an “attunement” that allows the student to feel and transmit life force energy. It is not a religious practice so anyone who desires can learn Reiki without any religious beliefs.
The practice of Reiki goes beyond healing physical ailments. The philosophy encourages living and acting in ways that promote harmony both with others and within oneself. Making the decision and commitment to improve yourself is an integral part of Reiki teachings.
Both the practitioner and the patient must accept responsibility for one’s own healing, and the Reiki teachings are useful guidelines for living a better life. Here is a small sample of what Reiki is all about:
Mikao Usui said:
“Just for today, I will not anger.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be grateful for all my blessings.
Just for today, I will work with honesty and integrity.
Just for today, I will be kind to all living beings.”
This is so wonderful because you aren’t agreeing to be perfect all the time – and you can do any of these for just one day… (and then another, and then another, but if you fail on one day, it’s okay, you can do better the next day).
Vivienne was attuned to Usui Reiki completing her level 1&2 in 1999 she completed her Reiki Master training with Eamonn O’Brien in Liverpool in 2000. Eamon’s lineage went back to Hawayo Takata a student of Mika Usui.
Since then she has learnt Quantum Touch, trained in Reconnection healing with Eric Pearl, and more recently completed training in Access Bars, Access facial and Access Consciousness foundation training.
What is the difference between Reiki and Access Bars?
Reiki and Access Bars are similar but different. Access Bars is a modality that removes blocked energy out of the body and you are taught the technique, while Reiki is a modality that delivers energy into the body and the practitioner undergoes an attunement process. While both have the ability to clear negative energy and induce a state of relaxation they are delivered in a slightly different manner.
There are 32 bars of energy that run through and around your head. They store the electromagnetic component of all the thoughts, ideas, attitudes, decisions and beliefs that you have ever had about anything. There are bars for Healing, Body, Control, Awareness, Creativity, Power, Aging, Sex and Money just to name a few. Each thought, idea, attitude, decision or belief that you have fixed in place solidifies the energy and limits your capacity to have that area of your life show up as great, easy and joyful as it really could be.
By gently touching these points on the head, the energy and barriers dissipate and the electromagnetic charge is released. Releasing stuck energy is like deleting old files off your computer. You have more space to create something new and wonderful with more up to date tools!
The purpose of Access Bars is to teach people that they can actually lay there and receive. Receiving is not done on this planet. Doing, doing, doing, in order to make sure you don’t have to receive, is what’s done on this planet. This has to change. You have to be willing to receive in order to have a different possibility in life.
What does “having my Bars run” mean?
This is a phrase used to describe when someone is gently touching any of the 32 points on your head called “The Bars,” by touching these points the energy stored there is released or dissipated from your body. This is very relaxing.
What can I expect from a Bars session?
At the very least it will feel like the best massage you have ever had, it is totally relaxing. At the best your whole life can change for the better.
No two sessions will ever be exactly the same, even if you have the same person run your Bars each time. Every session accesses new energies, new areas of your life and body, all of it with the overall effect of more ease in every aspect of life.
How often should I have my Bars run?
We have noticed impressive change when the Bars are run weekly for 4 weeks initially, and then spreading them out over a couple of weeks to monthly or whatever maintenance level suits you. Most people notice if they have gone more than three weeks that their body feels much better and their life generally goes much smoother if they get their Bars run that often at the least.
Whenever your life seems to be getting more difficult with everything that happens. Those “bad hair” days, grumpy for no apparent reason, really stressed out, or unclear about things; that is when you know it’s time for your next session. There is no right or wrong way for how often, it is totally up to you. You can’t have your Bars run too often.
